…and the ‘largest fashion retail store in the world’, Birmingham!…
Over recent years, our core skills have enabled us to expand this workstream internationally, from Primark’s launch in the United States, in the historic Boston flagship of the Filene’s department store, to Verona, Florence, Rome and most recently in 2022, Milan’s city centre and currently on site is a new store in St Etienne in France, due to open in early 2023.
As with the major city centre stores in the UK, Milan Via Torino was a complex refurbishment of an existing landmark building, over 9 levels, including the design and development of the Italian HQ at the upper levels. The layouts were developed to facilitate phasing demolishing old and construction of new staircases and lift cores and the upgrade of the building to meet the seismic requirements of the area. Low headrooms required ttg architects to undertake extensive 3D development of the services designs to facilitate their intervention at both roof and sales levels on this sensitive site, to maximise the useable heights and retail selling area across 5 levels.
